Many traders who use the ICT layers in ICC Charts also keep MetaTrader 5 open, because that is where their broker account is. So we made the two most used layers, fair value gaps and order blocks, into a free MT5 indicator that draws them by exactly the same rules. You can download it here with a free ICC Charts account.
What it draws
- Fair value gaps. Three candles where the first candle's high is below the third candle's low (bullish) or its low is above the third candle's high (bearish). The box starts at the middle candle and runs until the gap is filled. A dashed line marks the CE, the middle of the gap. If you prefer, the box can end as soon as the CE is touched. The fair value gap article explains how traders read them.
- Order blocks. The last opposite candle, up to five candles back, at the low of a leg that then closes above the last swing high (bullish), or at the high of a leg that closes below the last swing low (bearish). A fresh block is filled; once price has come back into it (mitigated) only its outline stays; when a candle closes beyond its far side, the block has failed and its box ends there. The order block article covers breakers and mitigation blocks.
There are no arrows, no buy or sell signals, no alerts and no trading. The indicator only draws zones; what you do with them is your decision.
Closed candles only: why that matters
Some indicators draw a zone while a candle is still forming and then move or remove it a few seconds later. On a past chart everything looks perfect, because you only see the final version; in real time you would have seen zones that later disappeared. This is called repainting.
This indicator only reads closed candles. A gap appears when its third candle closes, an order block when the candle that breaks structure closes, and neither moves afterwards. A box only changes its state when a later candle mitigates, fills or breaks it, which is exactly what you would have seen live. It also means the indicator only does a little work at each new candle instead of recalculating the whole chart, so it stays light even with several charts open.
The same rules as ICC Charts
The rules are not "similar": they are the same code logic as the FVG and order block layers of the web terminal, and we check it. An automatic test runs the indicator's code in a real MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester and the ICC Charts engine on the same 2,500 candles. Both must find the same gaps and blocks, and the same fills, mitigations and failures, or the test fails. So what you see on your MT5 chart matches what you see in ICC Charts.
Install it in two minutes
- Open the indicator page, sign up or log in to ICC Charts (free) and download ICC_FVG_OB.ex5.
- In MetaTrader 5 choose File → Open Data Folder and go to MQL5 → Indicators.
- Copy the file there, then right-click Indicators in the Navigator and press Refresh.
- Drag ICC_FVG_OB onto a chart and pick your settings: the timeframe of the zones (for example H1 zones on an M5 chart), how many boxes to show, and the colours.
When to use the web terminal instead
The MT5 indicator covers two layers on one timeframe at a time. In the ICC Charts terminal the same gaps and blocks sit next to liquidity, market structure, killzones, OTE and the other ICT layers, on up to eight synced charts, with alerts on your phone and a model scanner that marks complete setups. Many traders use both: MT5 for the account, ICC Charts for the analysis.
Education only. The indicator draws zones by fixed rules; it does not predict price and many trades at these zones lose. Trading with leverage carries a high risk of losing money: test on a demo account first.
Open ICC Charts in your browser, free, with the ICT and VSA layers and the model scanner. Or practise on past charts in the free Chart Challenge game.
